The time for military restraint is over – Israeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz

Until now, we exercised military restraint because of the international storm over the Palestinian family, seven of whose members were killed, on the Gaza beach on Friday [June 9, 2006]. That is behind us now, he said Tuesday. Peretz hinted that an IDF inquiry into the incident would prove the casualties were probably caused by a Hamas landmine that was planted on the beach to be used against Israeli forces, and not an IDF artillery shell. Earlier Tuesday, the Israel Air Force fired two missiles at a van carrying an Islamic Jihad rocket-launching squad in Gaza, killing nine people, including two of the terrorists and two children, and wounding 30. New long-range Grad missiles in the van exploded.
