Iran Plans Summer Attack On USA Forces In Iraq

Iran Plans Summer Attack On USA Forces In Iraq

For months now, the A-O Weekly Newsletter has been reporting that various civilian intelligence publications, think-tanks and D.C. insiders, as well as Mideast leaders have been expecting a "summer war" in the Mideast. Now, a mainstream British newspaper is reporting the same thing only pointing to Iran as the nation that starts the shooting.

The Guardian Newspaper in Britain is quoting unnamed but "senior" US officials who are indicating that the US has proof that Iran is planning on launching a summertime "proxy" war on US military forces in Iraq, to compel the US to withdraw its forces quickly.

The Guardian quotes US sources as indicating that there is now firm evidence that the Iranians are working covertly with Al Qaeda and all other insurgent groups in Iraq to combine together in one big push to chase the US out of Iraq before the fall.

"Iran is fighting a proxy war in Iraq and it's a very dangerous course for them to be following. They are already committing daily acts of war against US and British forces," a senior US official in Baghdad warned. "They [Iran] are behind a lot of high-profile attacks meant to undermine US will and British will, such as the rocket attacks on Basra palace and the Green Zone [in Baghdad]. The attacks are directed by the Revolutionary Guard who are connected right to the top [of the Iranian government]."

The Guardian says that US commanders are bracing for a nationwide summertime offensive somewhat like the TET Offensive of the Vietnam War.

"Certainly it [the violence] is going to pick up from their side. There is significant latent capability in Iraq, especially Iranian-sponsored capability. They can turn it up whenever they want. You can see that from the pre-positioning that's been going on and the huge stockpiles of Iranian weapons that we've turned up in the last couple of months. The relationships between Iran and groups like al-Qaida are very fluid," the official said.

"It often comes down to individuals, and people constantly move around. For instance, the Sunni Arab so-called resistance groups use Salafi jihadist ideology for their own purposes. But the whole Iran- al-Qaida linkup is very sinister."

The Guardian goes on to note that there is also evidence that Iran has now begun meddling in Afghanistan with aid to the Taliban as part of a two-pronged effort to chase America out of the Middle East. This is not news to A-O Weekly Newsletter readers as this developement was also recently reported as part of an Iranian plan to position Iran as the leader of the Muslim world. A-O Weekly also reported that Iran was seeking to overthrow the Pakistani government and get their hands on Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.

The Guardian also notes that the patience of the White House is wearing thin although publicly, the State Department and Secretary of State Rice seem to be more patient and optimistic. That may well be a ruse. In fact, the entire move towards direct negotiations scheduled for next week between the US and Iran may be a ruse by both sides to lure the other into a false sense of complacency while the other side maneuvers for a 'surprise attack.'
